In Turkey, the elderly population (aged 65 and over) in 2012, was 5 million 682 thousand. At the last five years, an increase of 17.1% in 2016 was 6 million 651 thousand 503 people. While the ratio of elderly population in total population was 7.5% in 2012, it increased to 8.3% in 2016.

The perception of the elder population’s social relations, life and life process is changing. Especially as the socio-cultural accumulation increases, the forms of old age have begun to change. The pension is seen as another stage of life and it could be based on tottaly different social and economic production. The campus, which we designed in 2017, was the product of another sense of old age, in which active living was supported by the social and fisical environment, healthcare units, forest (nature), right next to the center in Istanbul. We now know that the demand to design elderly centers will increase. And we have to be prepared to it as designers, researhers. It is a two sided business opportunity also, because it is a chance to have a profitable, and as a “social benefit maximizer” respectfull business.
