Karaköy Mixed Use Project

With the title opened by The Guardian, Karaköy is today’s “Coolest Hot Point” in Istanbul. Upon the decision to re-function the existing building, which is in the second row parallel to the beach to be articulated with the supporting units to hundreds of hotel projects in this area, with a mixed function, cafes and shared offices on the ground floor, flexible workshops that can host open art events on the upper floors, We switched to design as a restaurant.

Karaköy region has created a habitat in itself with its different concept streets developing parallel to the coast during its recent development.

Kemankeş Street, the primary street close to the coast, still continues its development as accommodation facilities from various segments with its historical buildings. The next parallel streets, cafes and special design workshops create a lively scene with its boutiques.

It can be easily observed that Karaköy users are looking for an intellectual center. With this analysis, we evaluated the ground floor and the 1st floor as a cafe / restaurant in function of the building, which is deprived of light and green space in a narrow street. We have planned the 3 floors on it as a flexible area where film, history, philosophy and photography workshops can be held and at the same time can serve as a shared workspace. We have seen that the upper floors with a view of the Bosphorus will serve as a restaurant to be rebuilt with a completely wooden structure.

We think that the tear created on the facade will serve as a valuable garden area for the building itself and its surroundings, and it will make a serious contribution by creating more effect than its own volume in the facade textures continuing as a wall.
