Beyoglu, Istanbul

Beyoglu can be said to be one of the most well-preserved areas of Istanbul with 19th century and 20th century buildings produced with western influences. During the Ottoman Empire, it was the region where foreigners lived especially. Beyoğlu, located on the ridge above the slopes of Karaköy, where almost all overseas trade is carried out, is the place where the buildings of foreign embassies and investors are located, where western trends, customs and developments penetrate the fastest.

Although the date of construction of the building, which is located on the street where the 6th Department, which was the first municipal organization established before the Republic, is not known, it can be estimated that it was completed at the beginning of the 20th century, considering the records, construction techniques and original materials.

The building, which is read from the Special Administration Records, where it was built as a residence, was used as office and sales shops in the changing socio-economy of the region. In 2010, restoration projects were completed along with retrofitting projects.

The building has been completely strengthened in accordance with current earthquake regulations. The building, to which the elevator has been added, will continue to be used as a residence in accordance with its original function. It will contribute to the vibrant social life of the region with its high ceiling shop on the ground floor.

In the building, which consists of a total of 6 floors, including basement, ground floor and 3 normal and 1 terrace floor, all the original details have been preserved, the floor woods have been left exposed, and are detailed in a way to show the unity of strengthening and original walls. The backbone of the design is the decision to make the difference between old and original and modern additions as clear as possible.
